1 - The Ultimate Scent: Juniper Sling

With award-winning film The Artist still in theaters, The Great Gatsby on tap later this year, and flapper-style drop-waists back in, you’ll need a fragrance to match the '20s fever this spring. In accordance with the era's decadence, the name of Penhaligon’s Juniper Sling ($110-140) sounds more cocktail than eau de toilette. That’s because the brand’s master perfumer, Olivier Cresp, based the unisex fragrance on the scent of London Dry Gin and the "bright young things" who drank gin-based beverages in 1920s Great Britain. Juniper Sling has head notes of orange brandy, cinnamon, angelica, and of course, juniper berry, and is complemented by heart and base notes like cardamom, brown sugar, and leather.

That’s not the only good news from the 135-year-old British company. Instead of hunting to find any of Penhaligon’s 34 scents at a niche aroma boutique, the brand is now on shelves at Saks Fifth Avenue. 700 N. Michigan Ave., 312-944-6500
