Do you feel it? Love is in the air—the spring air, to be exact. Chicago is slowly—but surely—welcoming warmer weather, and its residents are officially coming out of hibernation. For some, that means it’s prime time to get out and go on some proper dates. Need some inspiration for where to take your favorite spring fling? We’ve got you covered.
If you want to experience frozen sweets with your sweet, there’s no better place than Southport Avenue, which is currently home to four ice cream shops in varying delicious styles: Dairy Queen, Jeni’s, Froyo Chicago, and the brand new FRÍO Gelato.
Literally. Head to Cocoa + Co for a coffee date and try some of the cafe’s new seasonal creations, like an Affogato (vanilla ice cream in La Colombe espresso), a handmade ice cream sandwich, or an elderflower matcha latte.
Who says dates need to be on the weekends… or after 9 a.m.? Daybreaker is the most fun dance party you’ll ever have at 6:30 a.m. on a Wednesday—and possibly more fun than any you’d have on a Friday or Saturday night, too—and a pretty awesome way to have a blast with a date before you head off to work for the day. It’s a monthly occurrence, so keep an eye on daybreaker.com, or sign up for email alerts, to get in on the next event.
Disney’s Aladdin is a hit Broadway musical, and it’s now playing in Chicago through September 10 of this year.
Hop on your wheels and take a leisurely ride down our favorite converted railway, The 606 trail.
Nothing bonds a couple quite like conquering a challenge (or a major fear) together, right? Pretty sure learning to trapeze will accomplish that.
Post up in The Friendly Confines and bond over the city’s lovable winners, the Cubs.
Three Dots and a Dash's tiki cocktails.
As part of the build-up to the May 1 James Beard Awards Gala here in Chicago, the River North tiki bar Three Dots and a Dash will host a cocktail takeover event. Representatives from Paris’ Dirty Dick and San Francisco’s Trick Dog will join Three Dots beverage director Julian Cox behind the bar, and guests will get to sip on creations from all three tiki teams (including exclusive previews of new Three Dots cocktails). The date’s already planned: You just have to show up on April 30 between 5 and 8 p.m. to enjoy the fun.
It might not be first date material, but a night in hanging out and binge-watching some great TV definitely does make for a great (and yes, relaxing) date—especially if we’re talking about a rainy evening of April showers. Take the opportunity to catch up with your “One Chicago” family on Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., Chicago Med, and Chicago Justice. Or, visit with our favorite small-screen South Side residents, the Gallaghers, on Shameless.
If you haven’t yet had the potentially make-or-break conversation about which deep dish spot is the best (are you a Lou Malnati’s or a Pequod’s loyalist?), now is a great time to take that important step in your relationship.
