Wine and cheese pairings are available at Le Bar to celebrate French Wine Week at Sofitel.
Beginning on Monday (September 23), Sofitel Chicago will pay homage to French wine with a week of dinners, degustations, and more. The week’s main event is the Les Amis du Chef dinner at Café des Architectes on Thursday (September 26, 6:30 p.m.), a continuation of a series the hotel hosts twice yearly.
Steve Tauschman, a wine specialist with Southern Wine & Spirits, leads the headlining dinner. Following a reception, guests will gather around communal tables to enjoy six delicious courses from Café des Architectes chef Greg Biggers and pastry chef Leigh Omilinsky, while Tauschman presents perfect French pairings. Highlights of the menu include a starting course of Kumamoto oysters with Gerard Bertrand-Picpoul, a fruity French white; and Omilinsky’s caramelia ganache dessert alongside Chateau Des Capitans Julienas, a gamay grape Beaujolais. Purchase $150 tickets on lesamisduchef.eventbrite.com.
For something a little more casual, head to Le Bar on Tuesday for a different kind of tasting with Tauschman (September 24, 5-8 p.m.). Mini flights featuring the favorite wines of two renowned French wine critics, Michael Bettane and Thierry Desseauve, will be the paired with fine cheeses—a winning Le Bar combination.
Throughout the week (through Monday, September 30), Café des Architectes offers five- and ten-course dinner degustation menus. In a reversal of culinary norms, diners are presented with a list of the beverage accompaniments, but won’t know what foods are on the menu until each dish is presented before them. Reservations are recommended for the degustation dinners. 20 E. Chestnut St., 312-324-4063
