When the Sochi Winter Olympic Games begin later this week, more than 650 athletes will walk in the Opening Ceremony donning Ralph Lauren Team USA uniforms—among them will be brand ambassadors like Evan Lysacek, Shani Davis, and Hannah Kearney. The Olympic pieces are pure Americana, created from start to finish in the United States and available to the public just in time for winter’s final push. Here in Chicago, that probably means a few more Polar Vortexes.
The Opening Ceremony sweater is the crux of it all, a patchwork masterpiece that employed a number of USA businesses to create: Imperial Stock Ranch in Oregon supplied the wool, Kraemer Yarns in Pennsylvania spun it, Longview Yarns in North Carolina dyed it, and Ball of Cotton, Inc. in California knit it. Overall, Ralph Lauren partnered with more than 40 businesses domestically for this year’s winter games.
Even if you aren’t going to the games, the Olympic pieces are still chic—and completely useful. The Team USA earflap hat ($85), scarf ($148), and go for gold mittens ($98) are especially perfect for our next Polar Vortex, while lighter items like the custom-fit polo ($145) can transition into spring. The Opening Ceremony pant ($165) and Fair Isle-inspired Team USA Ceremony sweater ($395) are the perfect pieces to cozy up in and watch the games. 750 N. Michigan Ave., 312-280-1655
