Don’t let April showers smear and smudge your look. We reached out to Chicago makeup whiz Nika Vaughan, makeup artist and owner of Nika Vaughan Bridal Artists, for her stay-put secrets.

1. Look For a Silicone Foundation
Make Up For Ever Invisible Cover HD Foundation.
“The silicone is what makes it more water-resistant in general,” Vaughan says. She likes Make Up For Ever's Invisible Cover HD Foundation ($42; sephora.com).
2. Test Your Mascara
Put the waterproof claims to the test. Apply a little bit of the product on the back of your hand and let it dry. If it’s there at the end of the day, it’s a keeper.
3. Start with an Eyeshadow Primer
Vaughan swears by the layered approach. Apply a primer before your shadow to prevent the color from breaking down before dinner.
4. Choose a Cream Shadow
“Most are now highly water-resistant, so you don’t have to worry about melting away during the day,” Vaughan says. For an even longer-lasting and intense look, apply powdered shadow on top.
5. Lock Your Makeup In
Make Up For Ever Aqua Seal.
A water-resistant sealant can be a lifesaver, Vaughan says. The liquid goes on clear and adds a protective layer to your lips and eyes. Two easy-to-find options are Illamasqua Sealing Gel ($14; asos.com) and Make Up For Ever Aqua Seal ($21; sephora.com).
6. Go for a Stain
While lipgloss sits on the surface of your lips, a stain ensures the color will make it beyond the rim of your coffee mug.
7. Remove It Gently
You want beauty that lasts all day but comes off before bed. “The best tried and true makeup remover is a skin-friendly oil,” Vaughan says. Try baby oil, olive oil, or SK-II Facial Treatment Cleansing Oil ($60; sephora.com) to break down the makeup without dehydrating your skin.
