I am sending you all a heartfelt thank-you. These past 10 years have been quite a ride! It seems like just yesterday I was approached to launch a new magazine that would connect, captivate and celebrate Chicago like no other. Dubbed Michigan Avenue, the oversize glossy would join the media landscape with CS magazine to compete for readers’ attention— and it thrived.
That was a decade ago, and what was a tall order became even more daunting after the financial crisis in fall 2008, eliciting apprehension for such a high-end multifaceted title.
We released our first issue, featuring cover star Cindy Crawford, to rave reviews. And then the second. And so on, and before I could even reflect on our runaway success, I was busy plotting anniversary plans. Anxiety over the future surrendered to excitement over the present. Hotels, restaurants and see-and-be-seen spots up and down our namesake street couldn’t stock the magazine fast enough, prompting added media outlets such as digital editions for Apple and Android, free digital subscriptions, email and newsletter blasts, Instagram, Facebook and more.
We’ve faced numerous challenges and setbacks as the media landscape becomes more competitive. But it’s that challenge—to best serve you, the reader—that keeps us going. And we wouldn’t be able to do that without the longtime support of so many partners throughout the years—you know who you are, and we are more grateful than you could possibly know. Whether it be in year one or year 10, we truly appreciate your joining Michigan Avenue in its various formats on this thrilling multimedia ride. We hope you’ll stay with us, because it’s about to get even more exciting!
