1 - The Point's Cocktails and Cuisine Impress

The Point's pinnacle cocktail: Me No Laugh.

Situated at the Fulton River District end of Milwaukee Avenue, Kinzie and Desplaines Streets, the aptly named The Point, which opened earlier this year, is a haven for innovative imbibing options. Its signature tipple is the Me No Laugh, a cocktail concocted by the bar’s manager, Chris Marty. No simple mix, the drink is a heady blend of Arran 10 scotch whiskey, Gabriel Boudier Marasquino, Royal Combier orange liqueur, Cruzan black strap rum, and Jerry Thomas’ own decanter bitters. The first sip is strong with whiskey, but the lingering aftertaste is surprisingly sweet. The Point’s four other signature cocktails are equally as complex, but even classic combinations are retooled—like the Cosmopolitan with Sobieski Citron, Combier, cranberry, and fresh lime juice.

Unlike most cocktail-focused spots, fare at The Point impresses, too. The shrimp and sweetcorn spring rolls appetizer with Sriracha ailoi and roasted red pepper guacamole is a must; as is the Random Lake popper, an overstuffed cream cheese pastry with spicy house-roasted peppers. The best part? Each dish—from simple starters to hearty sandwiches—comes in whole or half portions, perfect for a full dinner or fast happy hour snack. Closed on Mondays. 401 N. Milwaukee Ave., River West, 312-666-1600
