The playCHIC fashion show mixes style and playtime.
The Chicago Toy and Game Fair (ChiTAG) celebrates ten years when it comes to Navy Pier on Wednesday, November 14. Opening the decade-old fair, though, is a debut event at City Winery (1200 W. Randolph St., 312-733-9463)—the playCHIC fashion show (6 PM) challenges four local designers to create high-fashion pieces based on best-selling toy or game brands.
Participating designers—Nade Baer, Mariam Cecilia, Elda De La Rosa, and Gibeon Tolbert—take playful inspiration from toys and games like Pony Royale, Moshi Monsters, and Little Orphan Annie (the Chicago Tribune comic-strip-turned-musical). playCHIC challenges the designers to think outside of their usual haute-couture constraints to create unique, imaginative looks.
The fashion event features appetizers, cocktails, and wine on tap—a City Winery specialty. Following playCHIC, the Toy and Game Fair runs from November 17-18, with special events like a Star Wars Character Lunch in addition to conferences, exploratory showcases, contests, and more. The nation’s largest toy and game event, ChiTAG is the perfect way to bond with the family and get some holiday shopping done early on in the season.
