Park Tavern, an upscale pub, is situated right by the United Center.
The Blackhawks may be plagued by the NHL lockout, but we’ve still got the Bulls and now Park Tavern as reasons to visit the United Center’s West Town neighborhood. The urban gastropub/resto, which opened just last week, is perfect for an evening out with friends.
When ordering, start with a signature: the resto’s famous animal tots are a sumptuous mess of pulled pork, cheese curds, grainy mustard, fried egg, and Bell’s Kalamazoo gravy served over tater tots or French fries. For the main course, upscale pub options abound. House-smoked brisket, baby back ribs, or PBR can chicken are delicious choices, but it’s the two-handed sandwiches—an actual category on the menu—that are truly standout. The foot-long grilled cheese offers more than you’d expect, with cheddar, Chihuahua, and pepper jack cheeses, candied applewood bacon, chipotle spread, and two fried eggs. For something really gourmet, try the shrimp banh mi sandwich, which features semolina crusted shrimp, Napa cabbage, jalapeno, red pepper and onion, cilantro, and Sriaracha.
With more than 40 craft beer options to wash it all down, desserts like bacon donuts and butter cake, three private dining rooms, and table taps, it seems like Park Tavern couldn’t get any better. But just wait until warmer weather, when the resto plans to unveil a sprawling outdoor beer garden. 1645 W. Jackson, West Town, 312-243-4276
