Entertaining season is here. Here's how to take it up a notch.
Prep your party platters: It’s officially holiday entertaining season. In theory, it’s a special time to relax with family, connect with friends, and de-stress over sips and treats. However, seasonal soirees can be difficult to tackle, from organizing and brainstorming the perfect get together to actually executing it when the big day rolls around. Below, the experts at Paramount Events share their tips and tricks to pulling off a memorable festive fete.
What entertaining trends are you seeing emerge this holiday season?
We’re seeing an abundance of all things fresh and natural. From greenery to produce, incorporating natural elements into your holiday décor will not only look beautiful but also heighten your guests’ senses.
The holidays are a busy time. What’s the easiest way to avoid a stressful event-planning and entertaining season?
First, create a timeline and be sure that some tasks are designated to be completed one or two days out from your party. Create a menu that includes some items that will hold well overnight. Secondly, consider hiring some help just to clear dishes and glassware during the party, as well as changing out the trash and refilling your snacks. It allows you to enjoy the party itself.
Whether it’s food, decor, or another element, what's an easy but overlooked way to take your holiday event to the next level?
We’re all about attention to detail and personalization. Thoughtful place cards and gift tags are great places to incorporate a personal touch. Surprising guests with family photos is a welcome touch, too (oldies are the best!).
What is a common holiday entertaining mistake that you see people commit—and what’s the best way to avoid it?
A common entertaining mistake is running out of ice for your bar. Since it’s cold enough outside, buy an extra bag (or two) of ice and leave it on the porch as a backup plan.
What are a few food and drink pairings you're particularly keen on?
We just rolled out a new caviar station at Paramount with all of the accoutrements. They pair wonderfully with different types of bubbles, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.
Many people resolve to stay healthy around the holidays, though it can be a tall order. What’s an easy way to execute a healthy, balanced holiday party?
Incorporate fresh, locally grown ingredients into your meal. Doing this supports your local economy while getting the freshest produce.
What is a fun activity to implement during a holiday event to encourage people to socialize/mix and mingle?
For both kids and adults, decorating holiday cookies is always a classic activity. It can be as simple as pre-baked sugar cookies featuring a variety of holiday-inspired toppings. Additionally, decorating wreaths for hanging to your front door—or bringing as a thank-you arrangement to a holiday gathering—is also fun and festive. Lastly, a build-your-own-hot chocolate station never disappoints.
