A Sprinkles Cupcakes cupcake
Nothing says spring like the start of baseball season, and here in Chicago we celebrate the occasion twice. First come the Cubs, who open their 96th season at Wrigley Field on April 1 at 1:20 PM against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The White Sox open their season at U.S. Cellular Field a week later (April 7) at 1:10 PM against the Tampa Bay Rays. It may be too late to get a coveted ticket to the game, but Chicago isn’t letting anyone sit this one out. Here are a few of our top game-day deals and events taking place outside the stadium walls:
Forget peanuts and cracker jacks: Sprinkles Cupcakes marks the opening day occasion all week with a special red velvet treat adorned with the Cubs logo. Proceeds from the cupcake ($3.50) go entirely to the Chicago Cubs Charities. Sprinkles, 50 E. Walton St., 312-573-1600
Though we might not be able to score a stadium a hot dog on game day, we can enjoy it for a lot less than the stadium price with the opening-day deal at Johnny Rockets. On both April 1 and April 7, the restaurant will sell their delicious Chicago style hot dog for just $1. Johnny Rockets, 177 N. State St. and 30 N. LaSalle St.
To watch the game on the big screen andbe nearby for the post-game revelry, head to Rockit Bar and Grill in Wrigleyville, where doors open at 10 AM and the B96 Deejays will be entertaining all day. Also enjoy drink specials on Rockit Lemonade ($10, $28 for a pitcher), Rockit Punch ($12, $30 for pitcher) and the Cubby Blue cocktail ($10, $28 for pitcher). Rockit Bar and Grill, 3700 N. Clark, 773-645-4400
