An innovator in his own right, NARS founder François Nars has long been known for collaborating with great artists, such as Andy Warhol and Sarah Moon, to create his beauty products.
This year introduces the vibrant 22-piece Man Ray for NARS Holiday 2017 Collection inspired by the innovative fashion and beauty photography of the American artist. “As a child I remember seeing Man Ray’s photographs,” says Nars, “but it wasn’t until I moved to Paris at 19 that I really discovered his work.” That devotion has translated into blush and eye shadow palettes boasting Man Ray’s iconic black-and-white photography ($49 each); four-piece mini-lipstick coffrets in shades ranging from subtle nudes to rich reds ($55 each); and a four-piece matte lip pencil set complete with a metallic lip-printed cosmetic case ($49). “For me, part of the fun of looking at old black-and-white photographs is imagining what makeup colors and textures were used,” says the visionary of the line’s vivacious hues. “And almost as important is the aesthetic and vision of beauty that Man Ray represented; it is bold and moody, and a little irreverent and edgy.” Now that’s leaving a beauty mark.
