This Friday, July 27, athletes from 204 countries will walk in the Opening Ceremonies in London, the Queen will formally open the Games, and the cauldron will be lit; an extravagant ceremony matched only by the games that will follow over the next few weeks.
Rockit is celebrating the Opening Ceremony from across the Atlantic, rooting for Team USA on Friday (6 PM) in an event open to the public. Olympic gold medalist Ruth Riley, a WNBA athlete for the Chicago Sky, will host the event. Riley will also use an ESPN-provided flip cam to record parts of the party for a segment about how former Olympians spend their break from the games, set to air on the sports network in the future.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a party without cocktails, and there’s no better place to cheers the Games than Rockit. Keep your Rocktails red, white, and blue—the restaurant’s famous Bloody Mary’s have Absolut Peppar and a special house mix, garnished with olives, lime, and a parmesan herb salt rim; the Tangled Up in Blue comprises Parton Reposado, Patron Citronage, Rockit margarita mix, blueberry puree, orange juice, and lemon-lime soda. As for the "white," the lengthy list of Reislings, Sauvignon Blancs, and Chardonnays is sure to have something to strike any fancy. 22. W. Hubbard St., 312-645-6000
