Chicago fashion designer Maria Pinto brings her line, M2057, to VMR this week after launching it on Kickstarter late last year. On April 8-12, the usually by-appointment showroom—whose name stands for Vintage, Modern, Resale, and carries designer labels both vintage and current—will open its doors to the public (12-6 p.m.) and introduce the collection.
“We love to support local talent, and Maria Pinto is one of the best,” says Tina Kourasis, who owns VMR with Mark Gill. “Her genius, new minimalist line is a perfect match for our aesthetic.” That minimalism is apparent in designs like the Isabella dress ($295), a powerful piece in navy with a funnel neck feature—it’s modest enough for the office or a luncheon, but possesses enough chic staying power to wear after work, too.
The key to simple style, though, is layering—something Pinto has down pat. The dresses in her collection are complemented by a series of shawls and wraps, from the geometric Squares scarf ($195) to the knee-length Greta sweater ($275).
For her part, Pinto is also excited about the collaboration. “VMR is a wonderful complement to M2057,” she says. “Mark and Tina have a concise, modern viewpoint that ranges from the experience to the actual designs offered.” The 13-piece collection is available for pre-order now. 34 E.
