While her debut spring collection was all about girlish pastels, Chicago Fashion Incubator designer-in-residence Lagi Nadeau takes a darker turn with her Fall 2013 aesthetic. In place of pretty pinks and sunny oranges, Nadeau’s latest line features deeper shades of purple, red, navy, black, and similar hues.
“For my Fall 2013 collection I was inspired by David Ellwand’s photography, and how his work transports you into a fantasy world inspired by nature,” says Nadeau, an Ann Arbor native and Fashion Institute of Technology grad. “My color palette and fabric selections were influenced by the colors in nature and how they work in harmony with each other.” (For a cool inspiration board and quote from Ellwand, check out Nadeau’s blog>>)
Translated to fashion, this whimsical view of nature shows through in pieces like Nadeau’s Lydia garland dress ($575), a sophisticated floral of deep yellows and teals, and the Eloise feather blouse ($395), a take on navy chevron. We can’t wait for fall so we can don the Ina coat ($695), a mid-length jacket in the perfect shade of plum. Other pieces are wearable now, like the Morgan glazed knit dress ($425), a sleeveless, summery way to wear leather. Lagi Nadeau pieces are available locally at Chalk Boutique (2611 Prairie Ave., Evanston, 847-424-0011).
