Dream homes come in all shapes and sizes—from chateaux on the Loire and pieds-a-terre in the West Village to breezy Newport Beach manses and lakeside Michigan getaways—but there’s one thing they all have in common, and that’s the ability to inspire even the most wanderlust-filled spirit to stay put and luxuriate in domestic bliss. What makes a dream home in Chicago? Unsurpassed views of the lake and skyline. Epic outdoor spaces. Private indoor pools. Over-the-top rental amenities like outdoor kitchens, fire pits and health-club-worthy fitness centers. Whatever your fantasy, you can find it in Chicago—and in this issue of Michigan Avenue, you’ll find it in our “House Money” feature, which details some of the most eyepoppingly gorgeous elements and five-star properties across the city.

Real estate isn’t the only thing on our mind this summer. How could it be when the fabulously entertaining Busy Philipps is gracing our cover? An Oak Park native, the actress/ author/talk show host’s Chicago roots go back generations, and she proudly owns her Midwestern accent in our cover story, a rollicking chat between Philipps and one of her BFFs, L.A. jewelry designer Irene Neuwirth. Read it and you’ll fall in love with Busy if you haven’t already; she’s a force to be reckoned with—and, more importantly, a force for good in the world.

Elsewhere in the issue: Millennium Park turns 15; ComplexCon brings its “cultural Super Bowl” to Chicago; wine experts sound off on must-sips for summer; Stonewall’s 50th anniversary gets serious play at Wrightwood 659; and so much more. In sum? It’s peak season in the city, and Chicagoans are living the dream.
