Kenneth Ludwig already heads an established interiors empire with his Merchandise Mart showroom, River North boutique, and even his own line of furniture. But this weekend, he takes his wares on the road to launch Kenneth Ludwig Curated at Randolph Street Market (July 27-28; 10 am-5 pm).
For the debut, Ludwig transforms market owner Sally Schwartz’s VIP outdoor cabana into a luxe lounge in keeping with the market’s July theme, Made in the Shade. “Designing Sally’s cabana is such a fun way to showcase some of the latest trends I’m seeing in the design world,” Ludwig says. “Inspired by vintage garden parties, part of the tent will have a playful, preppy vibe with an emphasis on prints, color, and florals.” Bright cocktail umbrellas and funky accessories will supplement mirrored and upholstered furniture. On the other side of the cabana, Ludwig explains, “I’m creating a bohemian-chic setting with exotic and organic elements.” Moroccan chandeliers, horn accessories, and terra cotta pots will be the stars of this aesthetic.
To add that touch of vintage so integral to the Randolph Street Market, Ludwig turned to New York-based design duo John Loecke and Jason Oliver Nixon of Madcap Cottage. The two will complement Ludwig’s curated collection with antique pieces, such as old-school bar sets that will serve up new-school sips like the Fitzgerald, a refreshing mix of gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, and bitters.
All of the furniture, accessories, artwork, and more outfitting the cabana will be available for purchase at the market this weekend. The Kenneth Ludwig Curated mobile concept will return for the August market and then begin hitting other area events with Ludwig’s favorite pieces.
