A renowned aesthetician and top plastic surgeon combine their skincare know-how to help men put their best face forward.
A growing number of men are seeking out skincare treatments like stem cell facials and injectables.
When veteran skincare professional Leah Chavie recently joined forces with Dr. Julian Dixon of FACE Chicago, the result was a whole new take on aesthetic treatments, combining her industry experience with his medical expertise. Realizing a shared desire to provide customized service in a boutique-style environment, they partnered together earlier this year. “It was a natural fit,” says Dixon of the collaboration. “By working together, we’re able to provide a wider range of services,” Chavie adds. The duo now offer everything from facials to fillers for both women and, as they tell Michigan Avenue, a growing number of men who don’t hesitate to seek out their professional services, marking a significant shift in the male skincare scene.
What are the biggest differences you see between your male and female clients? Julian Dixon: My male patients are older, mostly middle-aged professionals. Whereas it’s normal to see a 25-year-old woman, I rarely see a 25-year-old man. Leah Chavie: I have some younger male clients—a lot of grooms—but the biggest difference is men tend to like easy, simple treatments. They want something that works but gets them in and out, fast.
Which services are men requesting? JD: Men don’t say, “I’m 40 and want to look 20.” They ask for subtle enhancements, so Botox is very popular. Many also want to strengthen their chin and jawline to appear more masculine, which is easy to do with injectable fillers. LC: Hair removal is another common request, as are stem cell facials because they’re quick yet effective.
What will be the next big thing in male aesthetics? LC: Men really appreciate noninvasive skin tightening treatments, like Ulthera. JD: Absolutely, and those combined with different fat-removal procedures are a great way to define abs and calves. I’d say in the next five to 10 years, body sculpting will be as popular with men as it is with women. Leah Chavie Skincare, 2500 N. Halsted St., 773-327-7051
