Check out what six of the city’s top party planners have in store for the holiday weekend.
“This Fourth, I will be lucky enough to celebrate the holiday on a client-turned-friend's boat, skimming along the Lake Michigan shoreline! After spending time with the gracious hosts, I'll swing by my dad's in Arlington Heights to catch fireworks with the family.”
"Fourth of July will be a classic ‘busman's holiday.’ I’ll be taking advantage of one of our city's great assets. I will be putting together a cruise on Lake Michigan, entertaining friends, and enjoying great food and beverages prepared by one of the best culinary teams in the city, Blue Plate Catering. We'll take in our world-famous skyline and soak up all of the treasures of summer in my favorite city."
“Fourth of July is all about relaxing, enjoying time with family and friends, great music, delicious food, and this amazing American city that we call home. I like to keep my entertaining simple so I can spend time with everyone, keep stress to a minimum, and have fun playing with my son. My husband mans the barbecue, and I make simple sides and apps like cucumber sandwiches and watermelon mint salad with fresh sun tea and lemonade. I keep my decor easy-breezy and patriotic, with simple blooms and foliage in sweet and petite bud vases throughout the house, and let my summer playlist do its thing.”
“As an event planner, you never really stop planning or looking for a reason to throw a killer party. And the Fourth is no exception! Several years ago, my mom bought a home in Long Beach, Indiana, and I quickly fell in love and bought my own place just this past year. So of course, I have to throw an epic first annual celebration. A Long Beach Fourth of July is pure Americana from beginning to end, and that evening I will be hosting a fitting party for friends and family with ideal viewing of the area’s fireworks. But the party will start long before the first blast: We will have everything from a giant Slip ‘N Slide to yard Jenga, regional barbecue stands, and a performance by the band Gussied, who have a blue-grass, pop-twang sound. I couldn't think of a more fitting tribute to the good ol' US of A!”
"For the holiday weekend, I plan to spend quality time with my family. With the hot weather, we love eating light and fresh and plan to take a page out of Paramount Events’ book by using fresh greens and herbs grown from Devon’s garden. He’ll surprise us with a meal perfect for dining al fresco!"
“My July Fourth weekend plans include executing a wedding for 200 guests at Skyline Loft at the Bridgeport Art Center on Saturday and then decompressing with the entire extended family at our lake house in Wisconsin. Strawberry picking at a local farm, followed by making mini strawberry pies with my nieces to take out on the boat for enjoying during fireworks over the lake, figures highly on the list of things I’m most excited about!”
