In the spirit of Halloween, several restaurants around town are bringing out their most festive—and some, even creepy—treats to fête the ghoulish holiday. Take a break from prepping your costume to refuel with these four indulgent specials.
Gold Coast’s favorite barbecue joint is offering a one-night-only cocktail special you won’t want to miss on Halloween. The aptly named Spooky q Potion is a blend of bourbon, cinnamon simple syrup, and apple cider served on the rocks that could warm even the coldest of wicked hearts—but things take a turn for the nightmarish with a creepy crawly gummy worm garnish that is every bit as fun to eat as it is to look at. The trick? Let the worms sink to the bottom of the glass as you sip and you’ll have plump, booze-infused gummies when you finish. 1160 N. Dearborn St., 312-642-1160
Some pumpkins end up as sharp-toothed jack-o-lanterns, while lucky others end up as pop-tart filling. At 2 Sparrows, they end up as the latter. As Chicago’s top house-made pop tart purveyor, it’s no surprise that a spiced pumpkin puree-stuffed pop tart ended up on the restaurant’s fall menu. Expect the same buttery, pie-style crust as its previous pop tart offerings, as well as a creamy filling spiked with cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove, and equally spiced sweet icing. 553 W. Diversey Pkwy., 773-234-2320
Through both its name and its appearance, Master Mixologist Ergys Dizdari’s downright gory Halloween concoction singlehandedly steals the show as Chicago’s most macabre cocktail, but don’t let its looks deceive you; it’s actually incredibly delicious. Inside the glass, you’ll find white crème de cacao, bourbon, and Bailey’s, while a mad scientist-esque dropper filled with grenadine served alongside the glass makes for an interactive experience; simply drip some “blood” into your drink and imbibe. 221 N. Columbus Dr., 312-477-0234
Part grown-up dessert, part nostalgic trick-or-treating staple, Executive Chef Sarah McDonnell’s candy corn cheesecake is everything you could ever want in a Halloween-inspired dish. Slide your spoon through layers of graham cracker crust, vanilla cheesecake, pumpkin cheese, and whipped cream, and slip off into a dreamy sugar coma, just like you did as a kid with a belly full of candy. As an added bonus, $1 of every festive cheesecake sold will benefit the Lynn Sage Foundation for Breast Cancer Research. 2426 Racine Ave., 773-644-6441
