Iconic Italian house of fashion Valentino has been one of the most buzzed-about labels in the industry for years, but Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli’s most recent offerings take the brand to a new level of wearable luxury, says Chicago style guru Ikram Goldman.
"Piccioli is doing these really glamorous, extraordinary runway pieces, but then he's translating them for off the runway—that's what sets him apart from everybody else in luxury daywear. In a world where there are so many beautiful dresses and exquisite bags and shoes, he comes at it from this luxurious place of beading and embroidery and pleating and lace all mixed together to create a very simple, elegant daywear that fits an era, not just a moment."
For Goldman, the versatility of Piccioli's garment is key."These dresses can be worn with a little cardigan and a great pair of flats to be your daytime knock-around, or you can put on an incredible, own-the-universe kind of high heel and go out to a really dressy event. But more importantly, the fabrics are luxurious. The way the lace is interwoven with chiffon and knit and sequins, it's so beautiful. It's couture design." Available at Ikram, 15 E.
