Katharina (Ericka Ratcliff) finally affirms her love for Petrucio (Matt Mueller) before their friends and family.
Chicago Shakespeare Theater branches out from its home base at Navy Pier this month to present Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks, a new initiative in partnership with the Chicago Park District and The Boeing Company. The program will bring actors on a stage unfolding from a traveling production vehicle to parks around the city, where they will perform The Bard’s classic play, The Taming of the Shrew.
Born out of a call for more accessible arts, and inspired by the way Shakespeare’s plays were originally performed in an open-air setting, Shakespeare in the Parks will be presented at 11 venues before August 19. Tuley, Dvorak, Austin Town Hall, and Humboldt parks are on this week’s roster. The 75-minute play is true to Shakespearean verse and traditional Elizabethan costuming, but the score—a series of rock-inspired songs—offers some modernity. Hilarious, heartfelt, and timeless, Taming of the Shrew is a play for all ages. For more information: chicagoshakes.com
