Chicago Creation: Chikahisa Lace Ring

Local jewelry designer and metal crafter Ann Chikahisa of Chikahisa Studio puts a modern twist on the lace trend—which is dominating the runways, red carpets, and sidewalks alike—by solidifying it in metal. The end result is the covet-worthy handcrafted rose vermeil Lace Ring ($285).

“The lace collection was inspired by the waves and flow of the metal,” Chikahisa says. “I love the patterns and the randomness of it. I think the imperfections are beautiful.” By rendering the woven patterns of lace in metal rather than thread, she has created a piece that is simultaneously traditional and modern—miles away from your grandmother’s fussy version of the fabric.

With the organic inspiration the designer mentions above, it’s no wonder that her upcoming spring collection calls out to nature, too. The collection is still in the works, but we got a sneak preview of the first piece: a ring featuring a bronze-cast flower that is both feminine and edgy. We can’t wait to see more.
