Twofold Foods launched this year and offers organic granola and nut mixes.
Chicagoans Jennifer Blaeser and Paula Morawski came up with the idea for Twofold Foods—a local purveyor of healthy, natural granolas and savory and glazed nuts—out of necessity. The two women had corporate jobs that required a lot of travel, forcing them to eat inevitably unhealthy meals and snacks on the go.
“[Paula and I] spent a ton of time in airports, cars, and hotels, where it is hard to find great tasting and healthy food,” Blaeser says. “We started to make our own, and figured there were more people out there like us, who wanted what we wanted. We concluded that corporate America will always be there, should we want to go back, but taking the leap to start a business gets harder and harder—so why not now?”
That’s just what they did, and the delicious result was Twofold’s small-batch, handmade granola and nut mixes. The granola—classic, quinoa, or pistachio—is all organic and sweetened only by pure maple syrup. It’s the perfect on-the-go snack, but there are dozens of other ways to enjoy it: mixed into cookie dough before baking, sprinkled atop frozen yogurt, or blended in a smoothie. Other must-try Twofold offerings include glazed almonds, and a savory nut mix with almonds, cashews, pecans, chili powder, cayenne pepper, maple syrup, and more.
Blaeser and Morawski officially launched Twofold early this year, and have already expanded into more than 30 local retailers. Find the products at artisanal spots like Plum Market (1233 N. Wells St., 312-229-1400) and Hyde Park’s Z&H Market Café (1126 E. 47th St., 773-538-7372).
