The neon trend that took over the FW18 runways of Kenzo, Balenciaga, Prada, Valentino and more may have reached its fashion-meets-function apex with winter staple Canada Goose taking its lusted-after parkas to the next level of style.
Enter the Approach, a warm yet lightweight relaxed-fit jacket available in chic, bold tones of acid green, fiery orange and the hottest of hot pinks, along with the brand’s more traditional navy, red and black. But this is no slavish nod to fashion. To the contrary, says Karuna Scheinfeld, the label’s vice president of design, “the colors are actually one of the functional aspects of the Approach. When summiting a mountain, one must be highly visible: hence the need for bright colors and reflective details.” Scheinfeld also notes other features of the jacket, from its waterproof ripstop nylon fabric and brushed tricot-lined chin guard to its completely sealed shoulders and hood.
With that peerless performance, the Approach is essential winterwear—with the fringe benefit of an uberstylish appearance. Says Scheinfeld, “I was testing the jacket in April when we had an ice storm here in Toronto, and it kept me dry, warm and visible. It doesn’t hurt that it looked great as well.”
