Chicago’s chicest animal lovers came together on July 11 for the Lincoln Park Zoo’s annual fundraiser, the Zoo Ball. In anticipation of the arrival of the zoo’s Japanese macaques, which will be on exhibit this fall, guests toasted with champagne and danced the night away. Farissa Knox, founder of WhatRUWearing, captured the fashion—but none of the “Monkey Business” (the evening’s theme)—on camera.
Mary Claire Moll
Since coral is one of our favorite summertime shades, we had to get a closer look at this number. Moll told us she starts with a vision in her head when picking out special-occasion dresses, and that guides her style selection for an evening out.
Matthew and Janet Halpin
When Halpin gave us the details on her fun, floral dress from Neiman Marcus, she revealed that she absolutely wanted a dress that wasn’t black. Showing off the embellished flats under her gown, she mentioned, “This is the most comfortable I’ve ever been at any black-tie event.”
We spotted this Jenny Packham gown from across the Zoo Ball and had to have a one-on-one with its owner. Stamos, like Halpin, also avoided black while dress shopping. “I knew I wanted something colorful and fun because Zoo Ball is a fun event.”
Opting for a Sherri Hill original, Reneaua noted that her gown’s pretty beading, trendy slit, and open back were just a few of the details that attracted her to it, despite wanting a “light, colorful look” at first.
No matter the occasion, white always seems appropriate, so we couldn’t help but inquire about the details of this stunning number. The findings were shocking: O’Donovan informed us that her dress—which she found online at Nordstrom—happened to be her wedding dress.
John and Margot Ettelson
The sight of this classic dress from Neiman Marcus drew us to its detailed beading. When asked why she chose this look, Ettelson responded, “I really liked the coloring, I liked the purple beading, and I kind of liked that it was short sleeved. I thought it was a different look and it worked with the [Monkey Business] theme as well.”
Geraci, who usually sticks with Oscar de la Renta or Chanel, arrived at the Zoo Ball in a Wes Gordon gown from Neiman Marcus and told us she embraced wearing an original piece by an up-and-coming designer.
