Balvenie Single Malt Whisky hails from a distillery in Scotland, but next week pays tribute to craftsmanship across the pond in Chicago with The Balvenie Rare Craft Experience on May 3 (7–9 PM). Recently, Balvenie embarked on the Rare Craft Roadshow, a cross-country expedition that searches for American artisans creating unrivaled goods—from pottery to furniture to denim—by hand. Next week’s event at Prairie Production will screen Handmade: A Celebration of American Craftsmanship, the documentary cataloging the roadshow’s travels.
Chicago has no shortage of such craftsmen, and Balvenie brand ambassador Nicholas Pollacchi will introduce two of the best at the event. Oxxford Clothes was founded in 1916 and still hand-tailors custom suits to this day, with notable former clients including Clark Gable and Cary Grant. R.S. Owens is a 65-year-old company that creates elegant awards like the Oscar statuettes.
In an homage to its headliner, the event will feature a whisky tasting guide by Pollacchi. A recreated distillery floor malting station will also allow guests to try their hand at the craft. To attend this free event, RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org. 1314 W. Randolph St., 312-829-7499
