Nearly 2,500 guests lined the East End of Navy Pier to celebrate Michigan Avenue's Fifth Annual Ashore Thing, presented by BMO Harris Bank, on July 23, 2016. The festivities celebrated the Chicago Yacht Club's 108th Race to Mackinac. Throughout the Bob Loquercio Auto Group, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, and Chicago Helicopter Experience-sponsored afternoon, guests admired the Parade of Boats while sampling tacos from Mercadito and sipping Veuve Clicquot champagne, specialty Belvedere and Don Julio cocktails, Voss water, and Leinenkugel's beer, to remarks by emcees including CBS 2's Marissa Bailey. Partygoers kept cool in custom lounges outfitted by Kehoe Designs and BIGGS Tobacconist, played bean bag toss at the Lofts at River East station, perused electronics from Abt, and browsed garments and accessories from 900 North Michigan Shops' retailers. The young and the young at heart colored a scenic mural from the Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau and enjoyed nautical themed activities including sailboat and sailor hat decorating, face painters, and balloon artists in the Ashore Kids Junior Sailor area. Guests continued the revelry with an after party at Mercadito's newly renovated basement, La Mez Agave Lounge.
