In the newly released David Hockney: A Bigger Picture (Abrams, $95), a handful of authors with backgrounds from art historian to curator, professor to biographer, examine an expansive collection of the painter's works. More than just an exhibition catalog or retrospective, the piece is very much a tome for today—as Hockney, a painter for decades, uses both traditional and modern mediums.
The book includes many recent pieces created using his fingers and thumbs on an iPad or iPhone, as well as a reflective essay penned by Hockney himself. This work would make a gorgeous and colorful addition to any coffee table, and will inspire everyone who sees it to try their hand at iPad art. Barney’s New York, 15 E. Oak St., 312-587-1700
