Shrine Boutique Becomes Independence

Last week, in conjunction with footwear designer Oak Street Bootmakers, Gold Coast menswear hotspot Shrine restructured and renamed to become Independence. The revamped menswear store will adhere to the same successful template of quality materials and expertly crafted products that put Shrine on the fashion map, but Independence will skew toward a slightly younger set of sartorial males, becoming Chicago’s exclusive retailer of brands like Imogene+Willie, Left Field, and Engineered Garments. Oak Street Bootmakers founder and design director George Vlagos also created a number of shoes available exclusively at Independence. Shrine devotees need not lament the loss of their favorite spot, either—a small shop-in-shop selling the best of the old boutique remains as a shrine to Shrine inside the new store. 47 E.
