Local Artists Participate in Red Bull's 'Canvas Cooler Project'

Functional art is emerging as a frequent theme among contemporary artists, something that Red Bull further encourages with its four-city tour dubbed “Red Bull Curates: The Canvas Cooler Project.” At each stop on the tour, which launched in Los Angeles in April and hits Chicago this Thursday (9 PM), 20 local artists splash their visions onto a canvas-covered cooler that will be filled with Red Bulls and judged by the audience and a celebrity curatorial panel at the Chicago Urban Art Society gallery reveal.
More than just a way to showcase the work of emerging artists, Red Bull Curates awards three finalists from each city a trip to showcase their work in Miami at 2012 Art Basel. Participating artists range from art school-grads to self-trained, muralists to multi-media artists, literalists to abstract painters.
Following the gallery celebration, the works of art will be functionally displayed at restaurants, bars, and lounges throughout the city. To RSVP and learn more about the artists, visit redbullusa.com/CURATES. 600 W. Cermak Rd.
