Chicago Creation: Kentucky Derby Hats From Tonya Gross Millinery

Whether you’re making the trek to Louisville to see the Kentucky Derby live this weekend, or rooting for your favorite horse from home, you’ll need a haute hat from local milliner Tonya Gross to complement your mint julep.
Although Gross will be manning her Tonya Gross Millinery pop-up shop at the 21c Museum Hotel in Louisville during the Derby, she’s been planning event-appropriate toppers for a while. For men, the bold, salmon-colored Leo Trilby ($325) is preppy and perfect for the occasion. To shade still-pale skin from the Southern sun, we suggest the Marisa ($400), a hand-blocked and -dyed women’s parasisol hat in pretty shades of magenta and eggplant, accompanied by a damask silk chiffon scarf. Available at Kentucky Derby pop-up shop or on tonyagrossmillinery.com. 773-988-0279
We caught the hilarious Bob Odenkirk behind the scenes during his Michigan Avenue photo shoot.
