Guests don typical Derby garb at South Branch’s charity event last year.
Saturday, May 5, 2–6 PM
For the second consecutive year, South Branch Tavern & Grille hosts a Kentucky Derby viewing event to benefit the American Lung Association. A Southern-inspired buffet of dishes like a Benedictine sandwich, garlic cheesy grits, grilled beef tenderloin, and bread pudding with bourbon sauce can be washed down with event-appropriate refreshments like mint juleps and handcrafted Kentucky bourbon. Awards will be given to the best Derby looks. Tickets are $20 on southbranchchicago.com or $25 at the door. 100 S. Wacker Dr., 312-546-6177
Saturday, May 5-Sunday, May 6; 11 AM–3 AM
Not one to play favorites, Wicker Park hotspot The Anthem is celebrating both holidays this weekend with The Derby Sanchez—essentially, a Mexican-Kentucky Derby party. Enjoy the best of both events with mint juleps and margaritas, plus pork belly tacos and Kentucky Hot Brown sliders all day long. Perfect for the fickle foodie. 1725 W. Division St., 773-697-4804
Saturday, May 5, 2–6 PM; Doors, 12 PM
Need we say more? You can get a cold mint julep or Kentucky Hot Brown (the restaurant’s signature) year-round at Derby, but this weekend the American-Southern grill is offering a special buffet and drink package that includes Kentucky Bourbon Ale, mini Derby burgers, and more. The event also features best-dressed awards, raffles, and an official Derby horn player. Purchase $75 tickets at derbychicago.com/events. 1224 W. Webster Ave., 773-248-0900
