Alexander McQueen Resort Takes Flight
by justin min
From milliner/collaborator Philip Treacy’s winged hats to the bird prints and embroideries of many of the late Alexander McQueen’s collections, avian imagery has been a regular theme as the label has soared to new heights. Season after season, the lightness of spirit and the fantasy of flight have been reinterpreted to fit the look of the show. McQueen’s legacy lives on through Sarah Burton, who continues to captivate the front row with designs that are couturelike but with a softer, more intricate aesthetic than her mentor’s.
This season, when selecting accessories, consider this McQueen black satin hummingbird clutch ($2,845), which recently debuted in the new resort collection. Whether for a grand fête at The Peninsula hotel or an intimate dinner party at Alinea, the bag is a striking departure from the ordinary. Intricately embroidered and crowned with a hummingbird drinking the nectar from a jeweled flower, this objet d’art is a must-have for any McQueen collector or connoisseur of daring design.
