Chicago-based designers Shane Gabier and Chris Peters, of the label Creatures of the Wind, showed their fall preview collection last week at New York Fashion Week. (In attendance was none other than Vogue's Anna Wintour.) The 2011 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund runners-up showed an assortment of unexpected color and textile combinations that included red vinyl, floral brocade, and orange-checkered prints. Simple silhouettes and mismatched separates created a fantastical ambiance inside Chelsea’s Desmond Tutu Center. Gabier and Peters’ eccentric aesthete is intriguing and quirky yet completely wearable, and it calls to New York’s attention the growing Midwest fashion scene. Well done, guys.
