CLAUDIO RIAZ
CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST

Star-making stats: Sales in 2009 of Riaz’s industry-changing 24-piece brush collection topped $2 million. This year he expects sales to double with the launch of his color line, which includes five eye palettes ($95) and two face palettes ($115).
Fast face: Thanks to cutting-edge and customizable brushes, a woman should be able to apply a full face of makeup in a scant four minutes.
Muse: Women-Riaz has seven sisters. "I also design my collections according to what women tell me they need and want."
Must-have fall look: The sultry, soft, smoky eye in shades of deep plum and soft gray-found in his new palette, aptly named Chicago.

MIRIAM CECILIA CARLSON
FASHION DESIGNER, M.C.C
.

Star-making stats: Carlson was selected for the Chicago Fashion Incubator, a program sponsored by Macy’s that provides emerging designers with the resources to launch their careers in fashion. She also received the Driehaus Fashion Show Award of Excellence in 2008 and showed at World Fashion Chicago 2009.
Inspiration: Small, spontaneous moments found in nature
Statement piece: A dress made with mica that she discovered in an abandoned mine. Fragments of that same mineral appear on everyday pieces, too, like the eye-popping neckline on the dress she wears here.
On creating M.C.C.: “Something about fashion in Chicago is pulsing—I couldn’t have had this success in any other city.”
