Table 101, Henri There’s something to be said about a restaurant that’s only been open since 2010; this impeccably elegant salon comes with no emotional baggage. The sophisticated sister restaurant to The Gage next door, Henri is hidden in plain sight where tourists would never think to look: right across from Millennium Park. That makes Table 101 at Henri something of a miracle—an intimate secret just steps from the hordes on Michigan Avenue. The small oval table seats couples next to each other on a love seat, where they can share a bottle of biodynamic wine and keep an eye on the rest of the dining room. “We tried to make it romantic from the get-go,” says Catherine Gilmore-Lawless, co-owner of this French spot along with her husband, Billy. They’ve succeeded; this is the kind of place where you can impress a first date, or pledge your love on a fifth. Named for: Louis Henri Sullivan, the “Father of Skyscrapers” in the 1800s, who designed the restaurant’s terra-cotta facade. Seal the deal: In the short time Henri has been in business, at least eight couples have gotten engaged there. Cheeky cocktail: Order the Cinq à Sept, which means “5 to 7,” when French men take their mistresses out for drinks in the evening. Famous fans: Kelsey Grammer, Dennis Farina, and Mayors Rahm Emanuel and Richard Daley Edgy taste: Chef Dirk Flanigan used to be the lead singer for several speed-metal bands. 18 S.
