Chicago Creation: Spencer Triple Wallet

Winter Session makes a chic summer wallet.

June 26, 2012

Fashioned in a North Side workshop from local leather, Winter Session’s Spencer Triple wallet ($90) fits the bill as a locally made summer style statement. In particular, our pick is the chocolate/chestnut two-tone for its slick masculine color combination.

Winter Session masterminds Roy Katz and Tanya Fleisher are an uber-talented husband and wife team. Utilitarian-chic products—industrial-style aprons, upcycled tote bags, tool cases, wallets, and more—are created out of their storefront/workshop using recycled, natural, and domestic materials. Just down the street from the studio is Chicago’s famous Horween Leather Company, from which the Spencer’s old-fashioned vegetable tanned leather is sourced. The wallet is hand-stitched with Irish waxed linen thread; its two inside pockets are perfect for cards and cash, and we suggest using the almost-incognito outer pocket (which deceptively appears to be just a feature of the two-tone design) for easy access to a license or business card.

Winter Session products can be found at a number of local boutiques, from Haymaker Shop (5507 N. Clark St.) to Post 27 (1819 W. Grand Ave.) to men’s accessories favorite Haberdash EDC (611 N. State St.); the hand-created items are also available on the Winter Session site. 5615 N. Glenwood Ave., 312-829-6122; info@winter-session.com
