To prepare for a two-week journey on motorcycle for Operation Route 66—an organization that supports US veterans—father-son team Kurt and Nick Gerber will hold a pop-up art fundraiser this Friday (5:30-8:30 PM) at G.R. N’Namdi Gallery.
On display will be pieces by Chicago-based artists (including works from the Gerbers themselves, their wedding photography business partner Michael Scarpelli, and many others)—paintings, prints, and photography covering all different genres and topics, but with a common thread of the Western landscapes signifying Route 66. All proceeds from the art sold at Friday’s event will support their journey and accompanying cause. The evening will also include wine, appetizers, and music.
Come early May, the Gerbers will travel from Chicago to Los Angeles along Route 66, photographically documenting the life of over 90 veterans that have served in the Middle East. A small film crew will accompany their trek, and the pair also plans to share their travels on Facebook and Twitter. The film, images, and stories of the veterans will ultimately be made available to the public. In order to raise even more funds, the Gerbers will auction off their motorcycles at the end of the journey. 110 N. Peoria St., 312-455-1144
